Helsinki from Suomenlinna after sunset
Today was maybe the last day to photograph sunny and icy seascapes in Helsinki this spring. So I did spend several hours today in Suomenlinna photographing the floating sea ice and icicles 🙂 You will see those photos later, but here are four cityscapes that I captured on my way back to Helsinki from Suomenlinna.

This Life in Helsinki – Winter Gallery has 48 varied photos from the wintry Helsinki. The majority of photos include people (unlike my landscape photos…), it is snowing heavily, or couple of traditional landscapes have been taken from Suomenlinna ferry.

Sunset from Lauttasaaren silta #1
The sunset today in Helsinki was amazing, the sky was really on fire! I just hope that I would have had my DSLR with me and that I would have been in southern tip of Lauttasaari or at the top Hotel Torni… So these photos are taken with compact camera (Panasonic LX3) on my way to home. Svenska Teatern / Link to Winter in Helsinki Gallery
All images of this gallery were photographed during the second week of January 2010. The weather was foggy, and all trees were covered with frost, lots of frost. I do not remember ever seeing Helsinki so beautiful in winter time 🙂
Almost all photos taken in Vanha Kirkkopuisto and Esplanadin puisto have been taken with Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L II Tilt-Shift lens. That lens is very good for architectural photography. It is very easy to avoid converging verticals with the perspective control of that lens.
While I was photographing scenery in Töölönlahti, I also ended up doing some bird photography. Quite rare sight in the city center of Helsinki!
