Waiting for sunrise, Lauttasaari, Helsinki
Here are six landscape photos that I took today. At sunrise time there was about -13°C, and fog was rising from the sea 🙂 Because of this cold, the sea is also freezing fast and creating nice ice formations (although walking on those ice covered stones is not so nice….). All these photos are from Lauttasaari, Helsinki.

Landscape Calendar 2011 / Maisemakalenteri 2011
You can see all the calendar photos in the picture below. Six photos are from Iceland (from my trip last August), three winter photos are from Lauttasaari (Helsinki), two from Riisitunturi (Posio) and one from Konttainen (Kuusamo). Size of the calendar is A3 (42 x 29,7 cm). Calendar has Finnish name days and holidays.
Price of the calendar is 15 € + postage. Order the calendar now by sending me email. The possible payment methods are Cash on Delivery (C.O.D.), advance payment to my bank account or bill. Calendars will be delivered 13.-16.12. (When I will run out calendars, I will edit this post.)

Jo useita vuosia olen tehnyt kuvistani maisemakalenterin, jota olen antanut ystävilleni joululahjaksi. Tämä vuonna päätin tulostuttaa hieman isomman erän, ja nyt minulla on myös kalentereita myynnissä. Kaikki kalenterin maisemakuvat on nähtävissä yllä. Kuusi kuvaa on Islannista, kolme Lauttasaaresta, kaksi Posiolta, ja yksi Kuusamosta.

My photos from the 10 day landscape photography tour are now finally visible 🙂 As I have earlier told you, I did participate to landscape photography tour in August 2010 by Daniel Bergmann. Christopher Lund was a second guide on the tour. Thanks to them for excellent arrangements! The tour group was small as there were only 7 customers (one from Australia, one from England, one from Canada, three from US and me). We stayed five nights in tents, three nights in huts, and two nights in hotel/motel.
We started our tour in South Iceland, and our first photography stop was Seljalandsfoss. From our camping place we did trips e.g. to Jökulsárlón lagoon and Virkisjökull. The Jökulsárlón lagoon was very interesting place: the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is calving icebergs continuously to the lagoon, where they melt and finally when they are small enough, they drift to ocean through small river. The lagoon and the nearby beach are definitely worth visiting, but they are also quite difficult places to photograph. This time the lagoon was filled with icebergs, so isolating individual icebergs was almost impossible.

Selecting and editing the best Iceland photos has been taking longer than expected (during the 10 day tour I took over 4000 photos, and I plan to show ~100 best photos)… But the delay of couple months should not be a big problem. After all, I waited almost three years to get to Iceland! I tried to register to Daniel Bergmann‘s camping tour for summer 2008 in September 2007, but already at that time the tour for 2008 was fully booked! The Daniel’s camping tour to did not suit to my timetables during summer 2009, but this year I finally managed to participate his tour 🙂

Sunset from Lauttasaaren silta #1
The sunset today in Helsinki was amazing, the sky was really on fire! I just hope that I would have had my DSLR with me and that I would have been in southern tip of Lauttasaari or at the top Hotel Torni… So these photos are taken with compact camera (Panasonic LX3) on my way to home. Two additional photos below.

View from Hotel Torni to the northwest
Here are few sunset photos from the roof terrace of Hotel Torni in Helsinki. The roof terrace is in the 14th floor and offers excellent views to the Helsinki city center. I took these photos during two evenings this week. Can landscape photography be any more pleasant? Sitting in terrace, enjoying excellent view, drinks and refreshing breeze… 🙂

Sunrise in Lauttasaari, December 2009 / Link to Icy Winter Gallery V
In my opinion, the winter is the best landscape photography time in Helsinki. Especially the time when the sea freezes is very scenic 🙂 I photographed the first 37 pictures in this gallery during one week (14.-20.12.). The sea froze during that week and even though the photography locations were very close (within 600 meters), the scenery was quite different every day. If the weather is cold enough (about -15 C or colder), the fog will also rise from the open sea, and the scenery looks even better (see the picture below).
